Philosophy club subdomain request
« on: July 14, 2010, 11:19:05 PM »
Hi,I have started a philosophy club last semester at Aliso Niguel High School. I am working on creating a site (mostly done) and I am looking for a place to host it. I email the admin and he told me that it would be possible for me to get a hosting and that I should make a forum post so that it can be better tracked. I would like to know what I need to do to get started. Also, would the host have a MySQL client (phpmyadmin preferably) and would it be php enabled? How much bandwidth is allowed (I don't think I need that much to begin with, but just for the sake of knowing)?Lastly, I wanted to integrate a forum into this site. I was thinking of using phpbb but I was wondering if anyone else has any ideas about this. I am relatively new to this kind of stuff so any help would be appreciated.

Child for forum: Announcements, Discussions.
Sorry for the fragmented posts. I am having a lil trouble finding out what is needed.
I have a problem. You are asking for an [at] uci email when I am not a UCI student. Please let me know if there is anyway around this or if I will need to borrow another person's email address

@bolobito, sure we can let you run a site on a Zotters.org subdomain. But we can't let you have philosophy.zotters.org as their is also a philo. club at UCI who may one day use that URL. Maybe something like "anphilo.zotters.org" ?? or something??

We wouldn't really want to setup a forum board for you guys on AnteaterForum though since this is for the UCI community and would only confuse your members and confuse our members too.

Also, we don't allow forums to be installed on Zotters.org unfortunately - too many security/spam/blacklist risks.

What are you aiming to install? Most of our sites either use WordPress, Google Sites, or basic HTML templates. We would prefer you choose one of these options if possible, as they are reliable and safe. Mysql/PHP is supported. Bandwidth and space are no problem.

There are actually many free places to find hosting these days if you are just looking for a blog or something.

Well I wanted to have online discussions on the site. So I was looking to have the forum on the site. Someone suggested I use phpbb. I was seeing if it would be possible to have a part of the discussion board here but apparently not. If anyone has other alternatives please feel free to share them.
